I'm the Nintendo Editor for GKick. I have a dirty secret though, I actually grew up playing Sonic the Hedgehog! I love all things cute and Japanese, and have a massive obsession with Hello Kitty. I once dressed up as Princess Peach for Halloween.

Listen up Pokemon fans. Are you one of those players that has been playing Pokemon since the days of Red/Blue/Yellow? Do you buy Prima guides for every single game so you can track all the Pokemon and ‘catch ’em all’?
Creatures Inc. (the co-creator of the Pokemon series) has been a little busy with their tech savvyness.
In Japan and on iOS, a digital Pokedex has appeared on the iTunes Store. It’s no real use to anyone that can’t read kanji- but hopefully the app will come to the US/UK stores soon enough. Currently priced at about 170 yen, this roughly converts into about £1.50/$2.25. Upon downloading the app, you’ll see that all the creatures from the latest games (Black/White 2) will be available for you to check off. Other packs will be available for purchase also, which when purchasing all the packs from the past generations will set you back about £17/$35. Which is roughly about the same price as a paper guide that may just gather dust on your shelf for the next few years.
It seems a little expensive, and maybe the whole thing will come down in price before it hits our shores. We shall just have to wait and see
ETA: It turns out that it was a labeling error. Oops. Read the full press release below:
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is recalling a small number of LEGO The Lord of the Rings video games that were released for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft to Walmart, Target and Toys ‘R’ Us in the United States with a disc labeling error. The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional. This error does not affect any other formats of the game. We are in the process of remanufacturing the discs and will get them to the stores as soon as possible.
Consumers who purchased a copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game with the disc labeling error can contact customer support via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at 410-568-3680 for a replacement disc.
ORIGINAL STORY: It’s been reported along the gaming grapevine in the US that the new LEGO Lord of The Rings game released for the XBox 360 console was faulty.
Well, the disc played. That’s all well and good. But upon the opening of the box, some gamers were shocked to find a DEMO DISC inside the case and not a full copy of the game. Of course, this left both Warner Bros and TT Games with egg on their faces. It appears that this error only extends to the XBox 360 version of the game and not the 3DS, PC or PS3 versions. At least there has been no reports of those platforms of this time.
Of course, this is a very expensive mistake to make especially to those buyers purchasing the game as a Christmas gift. So please- if you live in the US and you’re buying an XBox 360 version of the game, check the disc before you leave the shop. Warner Bros have said that those who have found this disc inside their case to contact their customer service team for help.
Mike Morhaime has updated the community with some news for us all. If you don’t scour the forums and trawl the news- then this is definitely for you.
Diablo 3 will have an expansion. Originally, the idea was for the first one to have been released one year after the launch of the game- but as we well know, is just around the corner. If it was planned, obviously it’s going to be a complete surprise to us all. Mike confirms that the idea is still planned and the concept is still very much in the works.
As of 30th September, 2012- Diablo 3 has sold over 10 million copies. That’s not too shabby.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria sold 2.7 million copies in it’s first week alone. Yes. World of Warcraft is sooooooo dead. /sarcasm
Blizzard All-Stars is also in the development stages, also confirmed by Morhaime and ‘we’re doing some great work’. Internal testing is currently underway with game play. Nothing really concrete to report though, so just watch this space.
Heart of the Swarm for Starcraft 2 will now be released during the first half of 2013. Which is a bit of a bummer considering we’ve been hearing about it since Blizzcon 2011.
Blizzcon returns for 2013! The mega-con will be back for all you Blizzard fans, so get your costumes in gear!
Ubisoft has announced today that the company is planning in releasing a full story-arc box set for the Assassins Creed empire of fans out there. There will be over one hundred hours of content available in the set, including every DLC released for the games. So this means you get that plus all the following games:
Assassins Creed 2
Assassins Creed: Brotherhood
Assassins Creed: Revelations
Assassins Creed 3
That’s five, full-length games, the DLC and as bonuses it comes packaged as a steelbook and has five lithographs tucked into the box. No other content has been announced with the set yet, but Ubisoft is making an official announcement about the set later this week. No prices, platforms or locations released as yet- but I’m sure we will know soon enough.
I for one, was going to buy AC3 this week, but after seeing this news and not being a holder of the other games- I may wait out to see how much this package is going to be. Should be well worth the money.
I appear to have gotten myself some kind of a reputation around these parts for being the ‘LEGO Guru’. Yes, I’m a fan. Yes, I own most of the games (all the Star Wars, Harry Potter and Batman LEGO games *whistles nonchalantly* ) and I grew up playing with the famous plastic bricks, as is now my daughter. So yes, you could say I’m some what of a fan.
So when I did my first piece about the Lord of the Rings trilogy being immortalised in brick form, my heart leapt in joy while my stomach flipped like some tumbling acrobat. Happy days! Watching the trailer a few months ago, this game seems to break a few of the usual LEGO rules which TT Games started in the second Batman game. The tongue-in-cheek humour isn’t there so much, it’s a lot more obvious now. But the main thing is voice actors. And it’s actually pretty cool. As usual, TT Games came out fighting and it looks like they have another smash-hit in Lord of the Rings. Does this mean that there will be more of the game like Harry Potter and Star Wars? I assume so, but we will just have to wait and see.
For those of you out there chomping at the bit for this game- you can buy it now in the US and on November 23rd in Europe. Ah, you were attempting to buy Christmas gifts this year? Pfffft. I don’t think so…
‘Embark on a magical adventure with your friends to become the hero of Camelot!’
The open beta for Merlin: The Game has finally launched. As someone who got to play this game during the Eurogamer Expo, I really do recommend it. If you’re interested in the background of the game and an interview I held with one of the developers of the game- please feel free to check that out here.
A magical, fantasy game based on the TV programme, Merlin really is a game for all ages. It’s RPG and turn-based, but the best thing about it is that it’s a flash-based Facebook game. So that means no downloading, no checking system specs and best of all- it’s free to play. So get your friends involved and get your teeth sunk into one of the games I believe will become a very popular game on Facebook.
Award-winning Bossa Studios plan to change your perception of what a social game can offer:
Merlin allows you and six of your friends to fight off hordes of monsters, complete quests and explore exciting new areas.
As you battle across Camelot, you gain experience points while levelling up and customising your character with the skills you would like to use.
Progressing through the game allows you to upgrade your gear from those pieces of the medieval era, to shining suits of armour and colourful robes.
Striking and exciting visuals allow you to dive into the world of Merlin and explore the lands of Camelot beautifully rendered in a new stylised environment.
Be part of the story in the action adventure game that will always have new content for you to explore.
Also, during the making of Merlin: The Game, the development team consumed enough pizza to cover an entire tennis court. Now, if the thought of Wimbledon covered in cheese and tomato pizza doesn’t make you giggle- then I have no clue what will.

If you’ve been following my very patchy coverage on Telltale Games’ version of the TV series ‘The Walking Dead’, you’ll remember that I’m a very big zombie game fan and I like to shoot/slash/hack/chop/obliterate the damned mouldering blighters (delete as necessary). If you’ve never played any of the games, then I would say that you’ve missed out on one of the most interesting zombie RPG games that I’ve seen on a console for quite a while.
It’s almost like a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ game where your choices make for some interesting plot twists and the style of the game is almost like a digital comic book. This of course makes sense, as the original story is a comic book that evolved into both a really great TV series and a really great video game series. Originally available on XBox Live and Sony Online, and now Telltale is releasing both the box sets for the basic and Collector’s Editions so you can own all the game in one convenient package.
At this point, it appears that the CE is only available in the US and through the retailer GameStop- but if you’re still interested here’s what you get:
Extremely Limited for PRE-Order only, MSRP $69.99 USD.
The Walking Dead Compendium One featuring exclusive art by Charlie Adler (who’s been the series artist since 2004.)
The 48 issues of the award-winning comic book by Robert Kirkman.
An awesome box featuring more artwork by Charlie Adler.
And of course the game discs featuring all the episodes (1-5) from Season One.
There’s no news as to whether this premium boxset will be released outside of the US at this point, but I’m certainly keeping my fingers crossed for it. If you’re interested in it and it’s something that whets your appetite for zombie slaying- then don’t walk…RUN!
If you’re after a new super-hero style game to play and you’re also a Marvel fan, this is certainly a game for you. Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth is the ultimate super hero brawler set in authentic comic book-style art environments base on the iconic Secret Invasion storyline. Battle for Earth provides endless entertainment through a variety of gameplay modes including co-op, campaign, arcade, challenges, versus and and tournament. Fans will enjoy embodying their favourite Marvel super heroes or villains within the game including Avengers Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Loki.
Developed by Ubisoft, Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth will be released on both Kinect for XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii U for this upcoming seasonal period.
As of yesterday, they revealed the full lineup of Super Heroes and Super Villains for Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth and key art created by Marvel comics artist Stefano Caselli.
Fans of the Avengers and Marvel Comics will get to play as 20 different characters including:
News has broken out that a fire that was started in one of it’s Japanese factories will not hinder production of the Wii U console that is due out next month.
The company states that the incident has slowed production but will not affect the number of units shipped for the launch between November 18th in the US and November 30th in Europe. A stop on production for the Wii U would have been a devestating blow to Nintendo, as some retailers are already sold out on stock even before the release date.
Hopefully, no one was injured in the fire and Nintendo haven’t suffered too bad. Bring on the Wii U!
BAFTA award-winning composer Cris Velasco has been announced that he is scoring the soundtrack for Nintendo’s up-and-coming zombie thriller, ZombiU. It will be released with the new Nintendo WiiU console towards the end of the year.
Cris Velasco, (if you didn’t know who he was) is the same guy who worked on the soundtracks for Borderlands 2, Mass Effect 3 and the God of War franchise. He also worked on the soundtrack for Hellgate: London, which is a favourite game of mine. According to the press release, the soundtrack will be dark and twisted to fit the genre of the game.
“To immerse players in the zombie apocalypse setting and intense first-person experience of ZombiU, Cris Velasco composed a visceral hybrid action score featuring the raw sounds of detuned toys and instruments, carnival organs, distorted guitars, and haunting ambient textures, contrasted with the intimate emotion of piano and string quintet compositions.”
Sounds pretty cool, and I for one am looking forward to it.
