Aliens: Colonial Marines Shows New Escape Mode

September 6th, 2012 by Mitchell Lockey

Gearbox Software and SEGA have a new trailer available, showing off a new competitive mulitplayer mode for their upcoming shooter.

Called “Escape Mode,” this new format for the series will pit teams of 4 Humans against 4 Xenomorphs to determine who the superior species is. In this mode, the human team navigates through hostile territory, hitting checkpoints while being stalked by those pesky Aliens.

The human team has access to all those glorious weapons we know and love: pulse rifles, smart guns, the motion sensor (with that amazing beep!) and deploy-able sentry guns all get a spot in the trailer.

For the Alien side, three varieties of the Xenomorph were shown in the trailer. There is the typical Solider, who is more damage resistant than the other two, and is built for straight forward hand-to-claw combat. The Xeno Lurker is the fastest and most agile of the Aliens. This is the one to play if you want to sneak around and plan exactly when you’re going to ambush and pin down your prey. The Xeno Spitter brings long range combat to the Alien side, able to lob acid at the marines.

The game seems to follow the same style as Left 4 Dead. One side with the guns navigates through an overarching level, hitting checkpoints along the way while fending off the lesser equiped but stealthier opponent.

It’s unclear whether or not there will be storylines tied to each level or not, or if there will be AI controlled dangerous for the marines to deal with.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to release February 12, 2013 for all consoles and PC! Keep checking back for updates as we learn more about this title!
