Nintendo Flattens Rivals In Latest Japanese Charts

August 22nd, 2012 by Brad Ward

The creators of Mario, Nintendo, has increased its dominance in the Japan gaming industry, with it’s top 10 titles in this week’s most recent software chart all found on Nintendo platforms. One of their more known titles, Super Mario Bros 2, is leading the charge with almost 150,000 individual copies sold. At its current rate of sales, it should break the million copies sold milestone by this time of next week.

Weekly sales were generally up week-on-week due to Japan’s annual Obon holiday (a Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of ones ancestors). Nintendo has sold another 111,857 units of their latest handheld console, the 3DS, according to chart company Media-Create. The widely-known PlayStation 3 was the runner-up sitting at 16,777 units sold (I know, huge difference in unit sales). While all that was happening, the PlayStation Vita managed to duck its head in the water seeing the 10,000 barrier dented for the first time in a few weeks.

Here’s the full list of hardware and software figures:
