Are you a fan of the original Atari games such as Pong or Super Breakout? And are you one of these many people who once owned an Atari console but it broke long ago or will no longer work on your TV? Well, do I have news for you.
Atari have launched a new website for the 40th anniversary of Pong. Yep, 40th- Happy Birthday to the game that most kids today would find as boring as watching paint dry. Atari Arcade has 8 built in games you can play on the website, and is optimised especially for Internet Explorer 10. The games have been built from scratch by web developer Grant Skinner, and these are:
- Pong
- Super Breakout
- Asteroids
- Centipede
- Lunar Landing
- Missile Command
- Yar’s Revenge
- Combat
I am not old enough to remember Pong, but I have played many an hour or two trying to beat my high score in both Centipede and Super Breakout. You’ll be glad to know that Atari plans to add more of their extensive back catalogue of games in the coming months. Along with the games, there’s also social integration with Facebook and the ability to put your scores up on an online leaderboard. Even though the website is optimized for IE10, it is available on other browsers such as Chrome and Safari. With other browsers though, you’ll be forced to put up with ads where Internet Explorer will be completely ad-free.
The website is available at http://www.atari.com/arcade , fire away fellow gamers!
