Being British, I saw something on the news recently that made me laugh my ass off. Literally.
I’m not a massive fan of Halo, but I do know the basics. When I was sitting down watching the news yesterday, a story came up about the UN. I think someone screwed up though because in the background, I saw the UNSC logo from Halo. It is a fictitious government agency in the game called the United Nations Space Command. So in some ways, it is the United Nations…just not the one that actually matters in this situation.
The blooper happened on last Thursdays’s BBC One O’Clock News. The presenter- Sophie Rayworth was reporting on the real-life United Nations in Libya. But in the background on the large video screen, we saw what must have had Halo fans cracking up in giggles across the country. When the news story was repeated in the evening at 6 O’Clock, the story had been changed to remove the hilarious logo.
It seems as though the researcher went looking online for a high-res image of the UN logo, obviously just doing a Google Search for ‘UN logos’, or something like it. Grabbing the first image that came up- I do believe that researcher is probably getting fired soon :p Anyway, this means plenty of free advertising for both Microsoft and Halo. Anyone who hasnt heard of the UNSC is now at least doing a Google Search for it. And the Halo fans are laughing all the way to E3.
Here’s a clip of the incident. Enjoy
