UPDATE: EA is claiming that the notice sent out to Rock Band Mobile App owners was actually sent out in error. “Rock Band for iOS will remain live – the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error,” the company stated. “We apologize for the confusion this caused. We’re working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible.” Not sure how the message (as indicated below) could be taken as an error, but at least EA is clarifying the issue. It’s more likely that online servers for the game will be disabled soon, which is in-line with how the company generally operates.

Owners of the Rock Band Mobile app received a disappointing notice when accessing their app today: a notification that, as of May 31st, the game would no longer be playable.

While EA has released no official statement on the matter, this news has some players furious. In addition, the title is still available in the App Store with a $4.99 price tag but without any notice that it will be useless as of May 31st. The recent version of the Rock Band app, Rock Band Reloaded, has shown no indications of a similar shutdown, but with EA’s already poor position in the gaming community, moves like this are only sure to damage it further and may put future purchases of EA’s App sales at risk if they come with this unforeseen expiration date.
