Blizzard and Valve Come to Agreement Regarding “DOTA” Trademark

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that they have come to an arrangement with Valve Software regarding use of the DOTA trademark. With this arrangement, Valve will retain the rights to use the DOTA mark commercially whereas Blizzard will retain the non-commercial rights for DOTA for use with their community mapmaking on WarCraft III and StarCraft II.

In light of this news, while Dota 2 will remain the same, Blizzard has announced that they will rename Blizzard DOTA to Blizzard All-Stars, “which ultimately better reflects the design of our game,” said Rob Pardo, Executive Vice President at Blizzard.

Blizzard and Valve do not plan to announce the details of the agreement beyond this announcement, so further details will not be available.
