In Blizzard’s official announcement of the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, the company also revealed that this year would be the first year since 2006 without a BlizzCon.

Citing a “tightly packed schedule”, the company stated that the next BlizzCon would instead occur in 2013 and that the event’s usual StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena tournaments would occur at the Battle.net World Championship, scheduled to take place sometime at the end of the year in Asia.

Of course, all three of Blizzard’s upcoming titles - Diablo III, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm - are anticipated for release at various points this year. As to how the cancellation of BlizzCon will effect this, or when the next convention will occur, is still unknown. It’s likely that this could be a good sign for fans of all three games as the lack of a convention means that all three should make it out within the year, so there may not be much worth talking about at a BlizzCon event.
